Curly is now on Google Docs

Google Docs

Curly started years ago as a Word add-in, born from filling in the same offer letter by hand every week. Find the client name, overtype it, miss the one in the footer, send it anyway. You know the drill.

That add-in has been on Microsoft AppSource for about seven years. As of this week, the same product is on the Google Workspace Marketplace.

The idea hasn't changed. If a document has placeholders in it, like a client name in curly braces, Curly lists them in a sidebar. You type the values once and hit Replace. Everything gets filled, including the bits people forget: the header, the footer, that one table cell. Formatting stays put. No template language, no setup. It also works on documents someone else made years ago, which in our experience is most documents.

A nice side effect for mixed teams: open a .docx in Google Docs, fill it with Curly, and download it as Word again. The layout survives the round trip.

Your documents never touch our servers. Everything runs in your browser and on Google's infrastructure, and Curly only asks for access to the document you have open. Nothing else in your Drive.

OnlyOffice plugin 1.3.0: no more license keys

OnlyOffice

Version 1.3.0 of the Curly plugin is live in the OnlyOffice plugin marketplace. The license key is gone. You sign in with your email and a one-time code, the same way Curly works everywhere else.

Already using the plugin? Open the Plugin Manager and hit Update, and the new sign-in is there. Your seat and settings carry over.

Placeholders typed with fullwidth braces now work

All editors

Japanese and Chinese keyboards in fullwidth punctuation mode type { and } instead of { and }. Visually near-identical, technically different characters, and Curly used to look straight past them. Now both brace styles are recognized, so documents written with a CJK keyboard scan and fill like any other.

Team invitations no longer expire

Dashboard

An invitation to join a team used to go stale after a few days, which mostly punished people for going on holiday. Invitations now stay valid until they are accepted or withdrawn, and the team page shows how long ago each one was sent, so you can nudge or clean up as you see fit.
